Jane Austen Dresses!!

This last week my sister and friend, Bronte and I made these “Jane Austen” style dresses. We had many stressful moments but, it feels ever so nice to have the dresses made and now we can wear them! On Tuesday, we had a photo shoot in the dresses. Here are just a few pictures….

Updates and Projects

Well faithful readers, it has been almost TWO MONTHS since I posted!!! I am so sorry! I hope that this post will help update you on what I have been up to and what new projects are in the making!

On January 6th, I started taking homemaking classes from two wonderful ladies. In January we focused on correspondence. We made gift bags out of any box that would normally be ready to go into the recycling. We made cards and envelopes out of old magazines and calendars, made an autograph book, practiced fountain pen writing, and many other things.

Yesterday, we learned how to felt old sweaters and make mittens. You can pretty much make anything out of felted sweaters! Tote bags, cell phone holder, hats, mittens, arm and leg warmers, baby shoes, and so may other things.

Last night when I came home, I went looking for old sweaters and found a COTTON sweater that was bright and colorful (my favorite!). Although it wasn’t a wool sweater for felting, it was very thick and so it would hold well. So, I made mittens and a tote bag. I am also in the middle of making arm warmers out of the same sweater. Here are so photos of the finished projects!

I really liked how this picture turned out!

Right now I am working on what is probably my favorite baby blanket that I have made and more Becca’s Burpies (my homemade burp clothes- funny name! . I also have made one baby shoe out of a felted sweater and it turned out well, it was just a little stressful! I will soon finish the other one.

One last thing, I also crocheted a cuff at the bottom of the mittens to make them longer. This was easy and makes them more comfortable and they stay on better!

So, I hope this helps you understand what I have been busy doing the past month and a half!

Happy Thanksgiving! Don’t we have so much to be thankful for?

My mom wasn’t feeling well yesterday so I did some cooking. Here are some pictures of the process!

My sister Grace, took some picture of me for a avatar and I thought I would post some. Here are the two I liked the best. They are pretty much the same except in the top one I am smiling and it is in black and white!

So, for now I decided on the colored one because I like the richness in the color! Maybe I will change it to the black and white one someday.

I will not be posting a Homemade Christmas today because of Thanksgiving and I iwl not be posting fun fact Friday because we will have family here and will be going somewhere.

Introducing…Fun Fact Friday!

Today is the beginning of a weekly fun fact that I will try to post each Friday. Some will be money saving ideas, or just random facts. Today is a money saving idea!

Cole’s Salon has stylists-in-training and so you need to call and ask if they need any hair models. If they do, you can and get your hair cut for free! It takes close to two hours though so make sure you have the time. If it totally worth it though! I got my hair cut on November 4th and the stylist did a wonderful job! I would say it probably the best haircut I have had in awhile.

Homemade Christmas Gifts: Infant Hats

This week, I wanted to post pictures of a few infant hats hat I have made. Probably next Thursday I will post about making adult hats and scarves. I will try to explain how I made them so you can make them if you desire. So without further ado. Here they are!

Directions for Making A Infant Hat:

First you will need to make sure you have yarn (you don’t need a lot) and a size 3.75MM needle.
Cast on 55 stitches.
1st-10th row: Double Crochet
11th row: Double Crochet every other stitch
12th row: Double Crochet every stitch
13th row: Double Crochet every other stitch
Finishing up: Double Crochet every other stitch until the end and then put the two ends together and “sew” (crochet) them together and then knot the end and cut. Turn inside-out and roll the two bottom rows up to get the cuff.
Congratulations! You made a hat!

Homemade Christmas Gifts: Cute Burp Cloths

Cute burp cloths? I know it sounds a little strange but they are very fun, easy, and (if you find a sale) cheap! This would be a great gift to give to someone who has a baby. Maybe this baby is your niece, nephew, granddaughter, grandson, sister, brother, someone you babysit for, or just someone you are trying to bless! Here are some pictures of the ones I have made recently.

These two are probably my favorite! I love the fabric!

This one cost under $2 to make because of great sales going on at Joann’s for Veteran’s Day!

I think this one is so adorable! I love the little turtles!

The fabric for this one was also on sale!

I think this one is cute too!

Direction for making two of these:

Find a sale at a local Fabric store and look through and find one pattern of fabric that you like. Then find a striped or solid color fabric to complement the first one. Purchase 1/4 of a yard of each fabric.
Cut out two layers of each fabric into a rectangle. Then cut a circle out of each fabric. Hem and pin the fabric together.
Choose a color of thread that matches and start sewing.
When you are done, choose whether you would like to embroider something on the circle (See the 1st burp cloth) If you decide to do so, choose a design and embroider it on. When you are done, place the circle where you want it on the cloth. I do this freehand but, you can for sure pin the circle on if you desire.
Now you are done! Congratulations!
